March Highlights//2016

Wow. Can tomorrow really be April? This year has already gone incredibly fast! So here I am with Marches "Monthly Highlights" post---

What did I do this month? :P Well...
  • I started writing my novel!!!! :) I'm very excited, but extremely nervous that people are going to actually read what I wrote...=)
  • We had a memorable Easter...beginning with waking up at 6:00 to get to the Easter sunrise service. Then coming back, eating breakfast, and heading to the the main service which ended in a "massive" Easter egg hunt for the little kids. And of course the big kids found what was left. :)
  • I signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)! I'm excited to begin going crazy with writing this April. =)
  • I dissected a sheep's brain...and ate pizza...of course. :D
  • I got 15 followers on my blog!!! A big thank you to my followers!!!!
  • We visited some old neighbors and got to bottle feed their baby goats and see their farm again. Such fun! :)
So I didn't do a ton of reading this month...I only read 4 books *gasps*. :) But here they are anyway---

Books Read:4

Favorite: I would probably say Love Without Limits. It's a beautiful story! I'll be doing a review on it very soon. :)

Disappointment: Well...they were all great books, but Drums of Change was a little disappointing in the sense that it was very slow getting into and didn't really "capture" my attention until it was about 3/4 done. But the story was wonderful and I still am very glad I read it!

I didn't do a ton of writing this month other than writing letters and emails(that counts right?). :) I did do a little bit of writing on my novel though. This next month I should do WAY more writing with Camp NaNoWriMo. :)

Hosanna from Having A Heart Like His did a incredibly helpful  75 Random Acts of Kindness post!

Emily from A Purpose and A Promise did a really encouraging post on Joy

Clara from Reasons to Smile did a really amazing post on Modesty

Abi from The Left Handed Typist wrote a cool post on how she writes a chapter!

Hannah from Ink Blots and Coffee Stains wrote an awesome post on Joy!

All these blogs are wonderful and you should check them out if you haven't already! :)

-"Extraordinary People of the Past" post

-A book review

-A Christian Living type post

-Possible giveaway :)

In My Life-

-Emily from A Purpose and A Promise is visiting me! :)

-We are going to visit with a pastor from Liberia

-School finishes! (Yes...we are homeschooled:)

-Camp NaNoWriMo!

-Plenty of reading and writing

-Fun times with family and friends

And I'm sure there will be many wonderful surprises as well! :)

What are some of your highlights of this month? What thing's are you looking forward to? How many books did you read this month?

Love. What do you think of when you hear that word? Do you think of it as just a word...a feeling...an emotion. Or do you think of it as an action?

As Easter is tomorrow I thought I would do a post on love. Why love? Because without it Jesus never would have died for our sins...there would be no Easter. Love is a very important thing and something we all must do. It's a command given to us by our Savior.

So what is the definition of love? Well, Dictionary.com has 20 definitions of love. The first one is a "a profoundly tender, passionate, affection for another". So that's (one of) their definitions...what is God's definition of love?

I think God's definition of love is in John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends". God says that love is a sacrifice. Love is often not easy...it takes time, patience, and Jesus in us to love the people God has placed in our life. It's easy to love those who love us...but it's hard to love those who show no love in response.

The world treats love very carelessly. It's just a choice...you can love...or you can hate. And to be honest most people don't care if they're loving or not.

But as Christians, love is not really a choice. It's something we have to do...no matter how hard it is. If someone is annoying...you love them. If someone hurts you...you love them. If someone betrays you...you love them. The real test of Christians is not to love when it's easy, but to love when it's hard. When it hurts you to love. When it costs you something. That is true love.

I want to challenge you all as we celebrate Jesus' love to think about how you are loving the people that are in your life. Your parents, your siblings, your friends, your teachers...everybody around you. Is your love for them costing you something?

"For love to be real
it must COST
it must HURT
it must EMPTY us of self"
--Mother Teresa

What is your view of love? Will you take the challenge to love more this Easter? This is really what Easter is all about. Jesus loving us so much that he lay down His life for us. There is no greater love!

5 Tips For Bloggers and Readers

Let me start with saying: I love blogging tips! As a beginning blogger coming across Katie Grace's blogging tutorials and tips was SO amazing! And so I decided to "return the favor" with 5 Blogging Tips For Bloggers and Readers:

For Bloggers---

1. Keep it Simple

This is a definite must for every blog. Keep it simple. I really hate blogs that are "busy" and "messy". It will totally make me click the x button. So...keep it simple.

2. Make It Professional

Keeping it simple certainly doesn't mean keeping it plain! Actually if a blog is very plain that is another reason I may leave it. Work on making your header, blog button, pictures, text, and pages as professional as you can. It really will make a difference on how many people read your blog!

3. Have a Theme

So this is partly my personal opinion, but I think having a theme is really nice. For example you can look online (Pinterest is a great place to look!) for a color scheme, pick one, and then use only those colors on your blog. I would suggest not going crazy on colors though. Like not having bright blue text and a bright red header. That doesn't look professional!! Keep it Simple. :) Here is a link to Grace in Everything which I would call "themed". Oh! And make sure everything goes together. Like don't have cats in your header if your blog is about cooking. :D

4. Reply to All Comments

This one you probably already do, but I would encourage you to reply to every single comment! I absolutely love to read comments from my readers, but I love just as much to read replies to my comments. :)

5. Learn from Others

This might be the best tip I could give you! Learn from others. Look at your favorite blogs and apply things to your blog that you like. Experiment with different designs and find which ones you like best and which ones fit your blog and it's theme the best. Also, don't be afraid to steal copy people's ideas! Just don't steal all their ideas! :) If you've looked at all the blogs I read I've copied small ideas from tons of different blogs. :)

For Readers---

1. Read Posts

So...you may be thinking this is a little obvious, but to be honest it's very easy for me to skip the blog posts that are long, don't look interesting, aren't applicable, or I just don't want to read. Don't do it! If you really want to be a good blog reader you have to read the blog posts. (yes, even this one :P) But I would suggest you make sure you're really going to read the posts before you subscribe to a blog. :) And if you're reading a blog please follow it! (you know that small button that says "join this site":) The author won't know you're reading their blog until you do and it will often make their day to have a new follower! *winks knowingly*  :)

2. Comment

Comment!!!! I absolutely love to read my readers comments. :) It tells me they actually read the post, and it tells me what they think of my post, plus it encourages me to keep writing! So comment and tell them what you think of their post/blog!

3. Share Posts

If you really liked or were encouraged by a certain post, share it! On Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, by email, with friends, with family, etc. And also tell the author you shared their post. It may make their day!!

4. Give Suggestions

I love when my readers give me suggestions for my blog/blog posts! It helps me know what kind of posts my readers enjoy reading and helps me not have to think of an idea. :D I want to write thing's my readers enjoy reading so don't be afraid to share suggestions!

5. Get Organized

So...I feel a little bad putting this as a tip because I'm sure many of you may care less if you're organized. :) But for people like me who love ways to get more organized her it is: Bloglovin'. A website where you can have all the new blog posts sent to you in one email a day! How it works is you first sign up at Bloglovin. After signing up you can follow as many blogs as you'd like (as well as websites) and then under settings pick to have one email per day with all the new posts from that day. Plus if you're a blogger you can claim your blog. (By the way you'll want to unsubscribe from the other blogs you follow so you don't get 2 emails about the same post:)  It's been so nice for me!!

I hope these tips make sense and help you as a blogger/blog reader!

Do you have any tips for bloggers or blog readers? I would love to hear them---Comment below! I also am going to challenge my readers to do 3 of the things I mentioned above today! Let me know if you do it. :)

The Liebster Award

Happy Saturday!
Emily from A Purpose and a Promise and Hosanna from Having A Heart Like His both tagged me for the Liebster Award! Thank you girls! Here it is---

  • Link back to the person who tagged you
  • Answer 11 questions
  • Tag 11 bloggers who have less than a thousand readers
  • Ask them 11 questions
  • Let them know you've tagged them through social media
Emily's Questions:

What is the first word you can think of that starts with R?

...Rabbit... :D

What is the last song you listened to?

Well, last night as we were doing dishes we listened to a bunch of songs. One of the last ones was "Your Great Name". A wonderful song!

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

There are lot's of things I love about blogging! I love how you're able to share what you know and then learn from what other people know. I also love being able to connect with girls across the country!

Is there a story behind your blog name?

Not really...my original thought was to name it Completely His after a book I've been reading...but that was already taken so I decided on Completely For Him. :)

Tea or hot chocolate?

I would say hot chocolate because we almost never have it. =)

Which do you prefer, snail mail (letters) or email?

I love both, but letters are especially wonderful!

Guilty blogging habit?

Maybe that I have way too many ideas and have written out a bunch of posts that won't be posted for a while. :D I also maybe spend a little too much time on editing pictures for my posts. (;

Do you have any social media accounts?

Well, I have Gmail, Pinterest, Goodreads, and Flickr, plus a bunch more that probably wouldn't count as social media!

What is the next book you want to read?

Oh, that's hard! On my Goodreads account I have 27 books I want to read, lol. :D But to be a little more specific I want to finish reading the Woman of the West series by Janette Oke and also read some more books by Leslie Ludy. Both of the those authors are amazing!!

Dark Chocolate or Milk Chocolate?

That is super hard...I love dark chocolate if it's not too dark, but milk chocolate is amazing as well.

What is your favorite website (not a blog)?

Well, I love Goodreads and Gmail and reading posts on Girl Defined. I also love Landry Academy where I'm in a girls group. :)

Hosanna's Questions:

Why did you start a blog?

Well, I started a blog partly because I thought it looked really fun...:)...and also because I wanted to be able to share thing's I've learned and am learning with other girls. I've also been able to make many new "online" friends through blogging which had been wonderful!

What was the last book you read?

I think it was "A Gown of Spanish Lace" by Janette Oke. A great book!

What is your favorite word that starts with a "t"?

Maybe "treasured"...:)

Violet or Green?

What is a country that you would love to visit?

I would love to visit many countries, but a top one would be Switzerland! =)

Who is the most inspirational blog you follow?

That's hard! I follow many wonderful blogs like Having A Heart Like HisA Purpose and a Promise, and Grace In Everything. Grace In Everything has some really inspirational posts as well as the other two!

Do you have a story behind your blog's name?

Not really like I said above. It pretty much was just an idea when I was thinking of names! :)

In one word, describe one of your story's main characters. (and explain why you picked that word!)

Oh, wow...well in one story I'm writing the main character, Lydia, has a bit of spunk. She doesn't want anybody to be wronged unjustly, especially her best friend Elizabeth.

What is your favorite time period of history?

I love the pioneer era! And also the early and mid 1900's.

Do you prefer fantasy or mystery?

Mystery! I'm not sure I've ever read a fantasy book actually. :o

Favorite Bible Verse?

I love Psalm 139:9-10 which says "If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."

I Nominate:

I'm technically supposed to nominate 11 people, but I don't even follow 11 blogs, plus many of the blogs I follow have already done the Liebster Award! :) But I'll still nominate a few people:

My Questions:

  • What is a story that you're writing? (tell a little about it if you have one:)
  • What is your favorite song?
  • What is your favorite book series?
  • Who is your favorite Bible character?
  • Favorite book?
  • Would you rather read or write?
  • What is your favorite blog?
  • Why did you start a blog?
  • Do you like reading fiction or non-fiction better?
  • Who is your favorite Christian hero? (who is not alive)
  • Do you like World history or American history better?
So those are my questions! If you'd like to do the Liebster Award, but I did not nominate you feel free to do so! Have fun! :)

New Looks, New Changes

Happy Monday to all my readers! I hope you're having a wonderful start to your week!
Have you noticed the new look? I hope you like it as much as I do. :) Like I said in my last post I'm going to be having a few new changes with the new looks. After yesterdays survey I found out some thing's my readers would enjoy me writing on. Here is what they suggested and I'll have coming up in future posts-

1. Monthly Highlights

I was secretly hoping that my readers would suggest this because it looked like so much fun to write. :D In my Monthly Highlights post I'll share at the end of each month thing's I did that month, books I read, movies I watched, etc.

2. Book Reviews

I'll be writing books reviews now! Probably once a month I'll write a review of a book I recently read. I think this will be a great way to share books that I love(or really didn't like!). :)

3. Author Reviews

So this is actually something I made up...:D I thought...well everybody does book reviews...why not review an author? For my author reviews I will give them a rating, give a list of their books and series, and then give a short explanation of what their books are about and any bad content or thing's to be careful of if you read books by this author.

4. Photography Tips

I'm actually an amateur photographer myself, but I thought I would give tips on thing's I've learned! I did take a photography class from one of our friends and so I'll share tips from that as well.

5. Blogging Tips

For you bloggers I'll be giving blogging tips! If you're not a blogger...well...I'm sorry. (; Actually I'm planning a upcoming post with tips for readers as well!

6. Book Recommendations

I'll be doing a couple posts in the future with book recommendations. I'll give recommendations for different ages and good books under different genres (mystery, fiction, non-fiction). This will be a fun post for me to write since I love to read and give recommendations of wonderful books I've read.

7. Blog Recommendations

This was one of my readers ideas and I think it would be a great post! For blog recommendations I'll share blogs I like and a little bit about what kinds of thing's they post, etc. I may also share Christian websites that I like!

8. Christian Living

For these posts I'll be continuing my series on "Extraordinary People of the Past" plus posting on thing's I'm learning in my quiet times, in church, etc.

So these are all thing's I'll be writing posts on occasionally. I'll still be posting about once a week or maybe twice a week. And a BIG thank you to all who took the survey! It was very helpful to me!

Oh! And some of my readers said that they were not receiving my blog emails. I'm so sorry about that! I hopefully fixed the problem, but I think you'll have to re-subscribe if you want to continue receiving my emails. :)

Don't forget to check out my other pages where I've put up new things: Recipes, Writing's, and Lovely Blogs.

Thank you for reading this post! :) I would love to hear what you think of the new look and the new changes---Comment below!

Changes Coming and Survey

I know you're probably thinking "She just posted, why is she posting again?" :), but I have some news: I'm updating my blog! I'll have a new header, blog button, and new info on my pages very soon. ( =

And so I need your opinion on things you like/don't like and also what kinds of posts you'd like to see in the future! I would be so thankful if you would take the survey and give your most honest opinion of my blog. :) Thank you!!

How I Write a Blog Post

I love reading people's blog posts! It is so fun for me to get to hear what they think of certain topics, what their life is like, and how they do different things. Plus I love learning from others, so when they give me tips on blogging, christian living, etc I love their blogs all the more! So...when I first saw this post on Katie's blog I thought it would be neat to learn how she does her blog posts. Then a couple days later Hosanna wrote a similar post on her blog. And so I thought I would write one as well about how I write my blog posts! I have only been blogging for a short time so we'll see how it goes... :)

1. Brainstorming-

The first step is obviously to come up with an idea. I usually (at least right now) don't just sit down and think...instead I'll get a bunch of ideas from many places like church, my quiet time, songs, other blogs...pretty much anywhere. Once I run out of all my ideas then I may have to start just sitting down and thinking. (; But right now ideas are numerous and I don't really have any trouble coming up with any. And if it comes to it I can always just copy someone else's blog post like this one. hehe (:

2. Research-

So...I don't do this one on every post, but on many topics I don't have the wisdom I need to write about the subject, so I read about it! Especially on my last post I could remember close to nothing about Lillian Trasher so I had to do a bit of research on her and then put into my own words what I learned.

3. Picture Editing-

Okay, so I have to admit this is probably my favorite part of writing a blog post! That may sound a bit odd to you...but...well...it's true. I love finding pictures that are relevant to my topic and then using PicMonkey to edit it. PicMonkey is the best by the way! (And it's free, except for certain features and fonts) And if you didn't already notice: Right now I like doing this before I write the post. I'm not sure why...I guess I just can't wait. (; Oh! And lastly, I find my pictures on UnsplashPexels and a new website I just found called Pixabay!

4. Writing The Post-

So this is definitely the longest part of writing a post. Obviously...=) I do enjoy this part though! I don't do any outlining, just start writing. Often I write it out in a notebook I have for blogging first. This makes it easier to cross thing's out, etc. It also is really nice if I don't have a computer handy or have spent way too much time on the internet already to get ahead of the game. I like to do this part many days before the day I'm going to post it so that I'm completely stress free if something goes wrong.

5. Proofreading/Correcting-

This isn't a super fun part of writing a post, but a completely necessary one! After I've finished writing my post I will go back and proofread it to make sure everything flows and is spelled correctly, etc. On this step I also italicize and bold.

6. Schedule and Label-

So this step is super quick...it should hardly even be a step. :) I go over to the "Post Setting's" bar and add one or two labels to my post, schedule it for some Saturday in the future, preview it on my blog, and finally click "publish"!

So, this is how I write my blog posts! I would love to hear how you do yours if you have a blog and haven't already done one! (:
