May Highlights//2016

The merry month of May has ended!
As always it went "incredibly fast" and there was SO many things that happened. :) So let's get on with it-

  • We had a great vacation!
  • My brother got off to his overseas summer school(although that wasn't exactly a highlight:)
  • I started my novel and it's going pretty well! (I changed everything about it to a completely new subject)
  • I read a lot of books which was fun!
  • I went through ALL of my stuff and got rid of a bunch of things which was incredibly refreshing. :)
  • We went blueberry picking!
  • It tried out my skills at tie-dying. It turned out pretty well! :)
  • My goals are going alright...a few things to work out though. :)
  • Lots of great family and friends time!
I read quite a few books this month totaling 9.

Books Read:9
sorry it's a little weird looking :)

Favorite: I loved "Santcuary", "Meet the New You", and "Vienna Prelude". "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" was also a great book. And to clarify...there is no real witch...;) I do not read books about witches. :D Lol...
Disappointment: "So You Want to Write A Novel" had a bit of bad language and bad examples of things to write about so that was disappointing.

Well, I have been doing some writing. I'm not going to tell you about it though. Lol. It's a secret for some upcoming post. =D

Julia Ryan is doing a photography challenge for those who have a Pinterest account!

Hannah started a super fun Pinterest challenge. I'm really enjoying it!

Aubrey wrote a great post on how you are gold! You should check out this great girls blog if you haven't. =)

There's so many more awesome posts this month, but I'm getting a bit tired and I think I'll stop. :D

//Photography Post
//Blog Recommendation post+Giveaway(hopefully!)
//Another tag
//Writing post...maybe
//Book Review
//And...we'll see! =)

The Dangers Of Gossip

Welcome back on this beautiful Saturday morning!

This Saturdays post is going to be about Gossip. This is an extremely difficult subject to talk about and one that I still have a lot to learn in. So please don't ever think what I'm writing I have all down. Definitely not! :) But let's jump in and see what we can learn:

When I think of gossip I kind of picture one of two things. Either some older ladies gathering for tea and sharing the latest gossip(I know...it's weird!:) or a bunch of giggling school girls whispering the latest news. And so when I think of gossip I usually think that's just not something I do. But in the past few months as I've learned more about what gossip really is I'm realizing that I actually do it a lot without even knowing it. :(

Definition:

Gossip is pretty much "Idle talk about the affairs of others; rumor or general talk that is damaging to the reputation of others". This is the definition.

But what is gossip...literally?

Gossip can be as simple as telling a negative trait like "She's kind of silly". It can also be saying something good with something bad...like "She's really nice, but a little sloppy". Or by just giving negative impression: "Some people don't like her". And also just leaving questions in people minds: "I don't know what to think of her".

I always would say "If you would not say it around the person you are talking about don't say it at all". Although there are some exceptions this is a general rule. Gossip is probably something you haven't even realized you're doing. It is a subtle thing that Satan uses to keep us from following Jesus.

Why do we gossip? What is the root issue?

 Well, I think there are many reasons such as: fear of man, pride, jealousy, bitterness, wanting revenge, and it is often just plain fun to share! It's also fun because it kind of brings friendships "closer" when people have that shared secret or news.

Results of gossip:

Gossip has ruined families, friendships, even whole churches. It is not something to be taken lightly.

God's view of gossip:

Gossip is extremely destructive although it seems harmless at the moment. The Bible does not treat gossip lightly. Romans 1:29 says "They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips," This lists gossip with things like murder, deceit, and malice! That is scary that it is so serious yet we do it a lot without even thinking.

So basically gossip is something that God commands us not to do. The results can be devastating. The root is often jealousy or bitterness...or it is just fun to share. And it is often as subtle as saying something like "She is weird", "He is silly", etc.

(Now I do want to mention that I believe it is okay to share anything with your mom or dad including feelings of dislike for someone. Other than them though it is not right)

_________________________________________________________________________________

I would encourage you to monitor your words for a few days and see if there is anything you are saying to other people that is gossip. If there is make sure you take note of that and ask God to help you stop it. We don't want anything to hinder our influence as Christians!

"Meet The New You" Book Review

Happy Tuesday!!
I am here with my second book review of all time. **throws confetti** ;D I am going to be reviewing the book "Meet The New You" by Elisa Pulliam:

 Change is possible.

As women, we are constantly evaluating ourselves. Am I enough? Why can’t I change this certain thing about myself? Should I be doing more?

We long for real, deep, lasting change—but we don’t know how to begin. In Meet the New You, Elisa Pulliam empowers women to take charge of their own life transformation by engaging in a meaningful relationship with God and His Word. Each chapter gives practical and interactive ways to address some of the biggest obstacles that stand in the way of permanent change. Through stories, biblical application, personality assessments, thought-provoking questions, and life-coaching principles, Meet the New You helps women:
·         understand who they are
·         cultivate a vision for who they want to become
·         recognize what holds them back
·         determine the steps necessary to  put new, practical habits into action

It’s time to discover who you really are and how you can live life differently. It’s time to meet the new you!

When I first started reading this book I was a bit hesitant. It just seemed SO hard to actually change habits and lifestyles. I was very surprised though! This book was amazing. In a sweet and loving way Elisa took you through all aspects of your life and made you realize lies that you didn't even know you were believing and things that were holding you back from embracing all that God had created you to be. But she didn't just say things like read your Bible, pray, memorize scripture, etc.(although those are great things to do) She got into root issues that I would have never thought of before! Although this book was written mainly to moms and wives I found that I got a ton out of it and am still going through all the practical things she suggested you do. I think another thing I really appreciated was she didn't say she was able to change you, but she always pointed you to the One who can! As she says "Change is possible" and you really can be transformed from bad habits, attitudes, views of yourself and others, etc. I would definitely recommend this book to any woman 13+ who really wants to be transformed in every aspect of her life!

The Summer Before You

Summer. Doesn't that word fill you with excitement? :D No school, vacation, getting tons of things done, and spending time with family and friends. Summer is such a fun time of the year! But this post I'm going to talk about not just having fun this summer, but making big goals for yourself and sticking to them!

What are goals? They are: "the result or achievement toward which effort is directed". So in other words, goals are things that we aim for and want to achieve. It could be fitness goals, eating goals, computer goals, writing goals, reading goals...pretty much anything that you want to achieve and make happen!

But why are goals important? Well, I think goals are really important because they give you a vision of who you want to become. You might want to make a goal to stop a certain habit, become better fit, read 1oo books in a year, or be more diligent in your quiet times. But I would really encourage you to make lots of goals this summer! Don't let the summer go by without you achieving big things! Don't let it go by without you making a difference in someone's life as well as your own.

So to give you an idea of what different goals could look like I'm going to share some of my summer goals with you. :) Notice how I have a variety of goals from fitness and keeping hydrated to keeping up with my quiet times and spending time with siblings:

//Exercise every day
// Spend time with my little brother every day
// Stop my habit of biting my fingernails (this could be an extremely hard one to break! :)
// Spend a maximum time of 30 min on the computer (there will be exceptions though!)
// Never miss a day of doing my quiet time
//Drink all of the water I'm suppose to get each day
//Write my whole novel this summer (that will be a stretch, but...you have to make big goals, right? :)

Having goals for this summer gets me excited! It gives me a vision for what I want to become by the end of the summer. I don't want to be the same person by the time school comes around.  I want to break different habits of mine like spending way too much time on the computer, skipping my quiet time because I really just don't feel like doing it, not spending time with my siblings, as well as many other things I didn't want to share. :)

But I think the point of this post is not to show you all the goals that I have, but for me to really encourage you to think of your summer in a new way. To not just think of it as tons of free time to spend away. To not think of it as just having fun. But to think of it as what goals would God want me to have? How would He want me to spend my time? And what things do I need to do to make that happen?

So I would encourage you today to write down a long list of everything you want to accomplish this summer. It could be as small as reading 5 books or as big as stopping your habit of getting angry. Make big goals for yourself and remember that you have a big God who can help you reach them!

Don't be the same person after this summer.

April Highlights//2016

Hello again!
Well, somehow it is May today! April went incredibly fast for me, but I'm definitely looking forward to the month of May being full of flowers, sunshine, and summer vacation. :) But to wrap up April here I am with this months "Monthly Highlights" post-

  • Hosting a pastor from Liberia and getting to get together with lots of families to meet him. I had a great time with Emily as well!
  • Finishing school!!!
  • Lots of reading
  • Spending good family time
  • Hosanna released her novella!
  • I got 25 followers!!! I had a secret goal of getting that many this month and so I'm so thankful for all of you awesome followers. =)
  • Getting to interview Ms. Amanda Tero
  • And many other little things that I can't remember. =) Every day is special in a different way!

I did some reading this month totaling in about 6 books. I'm sure I'll do more in the summer as I won't have school . :)

Books Read:6

Favorite: That's hard! I would say I enjoyed them all!
Disappointment:I don't really think any of them were a big disappointment! =)

We don't usually watch many movies, but this month I did watch a few-

I enjoyed watching all of these movie, but I really loved "Anne of Green Gables"! I had never seen it before so I enjoyed watching it for the first time. =) Flywheel is definitely a great movie and Love Comes Softly was good, but not my favorite. Probably because I've read the book and so the movie was slightly disappointing. ;) I would love any other suggestions of movies to watch over the summer in the comments!

Well, I didn't do any writing this month although it was Camp NaNo. :P I'm still trying to do a bit of planning for my novel, but I have a goal of writing the whole novel this summer. So...maybe beta readers in August?  Or not...;)

Posts-

//Possible guest post

//Maybe another tag

//Giant blog recommendations post??? :)

//Maybe some photography tips

And...any others you guys would like for me to post on???

In My Life-

//Vacation Trip
//Hopefully reaching summer goals
//Lots of reading and writing
//Times with family and friends
//A pretty quiet month really!
